WOW....I fell asleep watching Project Farm with my phone laying on my chest. I woke up and rhis video was playing. I watched this the other day and saw the comment section tearing John apart for being kind of an ass to his employees. Then I noticed the video has been edited to not show him saying somethings. Hasnt the laundry list of companies and actors that has done this educational enough John? You just poured gas on the fire my guy.

I had best results by making the cuts triangular, bigger on the inside, or at the bottom. Depends on how you're looking at it. I don't have fancy tools so i did double cuts.

Stitch it BUT you should stitch it with a bit of epoxy. (The practice that i am thinking of is used for broken pottery, It's called Kintsugi, or Kintsukuroi. Kintsugi is the process of repairing ceramics traditionally with lacquer and gold, leaving a gold seam where the cracks were. The technique consists in joining fragments and giving them a new, more refined aspect.)

I love that you have used AI To help Inspire your design improvements. I am a Nail tech and Do the same thing sometimes when a Client doesnt "know" what she likes. I use AI and her suggestions to give me some suggestions. Its so fun!

I admire your commitment to the artistry of making squared timber look organic, but why not just build the base out of actual branchwood. You can get a thicker piece for the trunk and add other, smaller branches to make the end shape. They have the natural bends in them, if you choose the appropriate pieces, and they literally grow on (and fall off) trees. I live by the sea now, so I'm going mad with all the driftwood that I keep salvaging off the beach, but I used to live in an area with lots of woods. If you take a piece or two back with you each time you walk the dog, bury a body, etc, then you can amass a large enough pile for a project like this fairly quickly. If the wood is a bit juicy still, leave it covered for a year and come back to the project a while later. But given the way you built it, I would recommend drilling along through the pieces you are joining with a long auger and glue a length of dowel rod of the same size down the hole and through all the pieces. Cut two or three relief slots along the length of the dowel with a penknife or a v-chisel though to relieve the air pressure as you bang the dowel in, otherwise you turn it into a giant piston. 😂 I use 8 or 10mm, because those are some of the standard dowel sizes here in the UK, so use whatever the equivalent US standard sizes are. Once you're mostly done with the carving/shaping, you drill the exposed end of the dowel out by maybe 1/8th of an inch, and glue in a button made from an offcut of the project wood. Sand that to match and the job's a good'un. Nobody should see it. The dowel acts as a support, like a metal fixing, but it's so much easier to hide once you're done shaping.

John, crazy thought & idea. Hear me out, I share all of this out of respect. Complete the original build with a twist. Hard as all F... yes. You said so yourself, slab needed to be longer. Find a compatible live edge slab, colors, grains, length, width... etc... Cut the damaged end off the original. Create one (1) bend in the new table, and join the other end to the broken/cut end of the other. Could even steal concepts from dining room tables and double down on overcoming challenges, and include extra "leafs" or means of expanding or shrinking the table. I think that would be too much. But, the point being, y'all come together, overcome challenges, and overdue... let's be honest, there was room for improvements, and I'm sure we all know a good parent or coach who instilled "practice makes perfect". Re-hashing some details, and getting some practice may not hurt (I say this with 100% respect that you are a more experienced wood worker than myself). Yes, I recognize what I'm suggesting is even more difficult than the original post. I believe you all can do it... with a couple cool pros - 1 video, can become 3, with a scincere explanation video, and the final. Another positive, y'all can review the footage of the original attempt and share process improvements, or otherwise make refinements. I mean, who really wants to see someone fall off the bike only to lose interest and not overcome??? I know we can be, and are better than that. We get back up and try again. It's who we are.
